Transnistria's commemorative issues occupy an odd corner of notaphily — legal tender within a state unrecognized by any United Nations member, printed in quantities that make them effectively collectibles from the moment of issue. This 1 Rouble marks the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Germany, with the print date of 30 April 1945 embedded as a commemorative reference rather than an actual date of note production.
April 30, 1945 was the day Soviet forces raised a flag over the Reichstag in Berlin — and also, by coincidence or design, the date of Hitler's suicide in the Führerbunker.
