Velikden — the Eastern Orthodox Easter — has been commemorated across Soviet and post-Soviet coinage, but Belarus produced one of the more culturally specific versions in this series, tying the issue explicitly to Belarusian folk traditions rather than the broader Orthodox calendar. The oxidized copper-nickel finish, uncommon for Belarusian circulation commemoratives of this period, was chosen to evoke aged metalwork associated with traditional craft objects.
