Part of Belarus's long-running commemorative sports and tourism series, this rouble was issued to promote domestic leisure infrastructure during a period when the Lukashenko government was investing heavily in state-backed recreation facilities. Silichy, located roughly 25 kilometers northeast of Minsk, was developed into one of the country's flagship ski resorts in the early 2000s — modest by Alpine standards, but significant in a country whose highest natural elevation barely clears 340 meters.
