Part of Belarus's long-running zodiac series, this rouble was issued as a collector piece rather than circulating currency — the National Bank of Belarus used oxidized copper-nickel extensively in the 2000s and 2010s for themed commemorative runs targeting the domestic collector market. The Republic's post-Soviet central bank leaned heavily on such series to generate non-inflationary revenue during periods of severe currency instability, including the rouble crises of 2011.
