Obverse description The obverse displays the State Emblem of the Russian Federation — a double-headed eagle with raised wings, surmounted by three imperial crowns, holding a sceptre in the right talon and an orb in the left, with a shield bearing an equestrian figure of St. George at its centre. The legend РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ (Russian Federation) arcs along the upper rim, flanked by two decorative lozenges. Below the eagle, in the lower field, the inscriptions БАНК РОССИИ, 1 РУБЛЬ, and 2017 г. are arranged in three lines. To the lower left of the eagle appears the fineness designation Ag 925, while to the lower right are the weight indication 7,78 and the Moscow Mint monogram (ММД).

Reverse description The reverse features the emblem of the Motorised Rifle Troops of the Russian Armed Forces: a stylised double-headed eagle with spread wings, surmounted by a single imperial crown, its body overlaid with an elongated heraldic shield bearing a central device. The eagle holds a sword upright in its right talon and a grenade in its left. The inscription МОТОСТРЕЛКОВЫЕ ВОЙСКА (Motorised Rifle Troops) curves along the lower rim in bold Cyrillic lettering. The design is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field.

Additional information

Part of Russia's long-running "Troops of Russia" commemorative series, this rouble was issued at a moment when motorised rifle forces were receiving unusual public attention — Russian ground operations in Syria had been ongoing since 2015, with motorised rifle units forming the backbone of any potential land deployment. The Bank of Russia issued several military branch coins in 2017, each in modest proof mintages distributed primarily through Sberbank retail channels.
