| Additional information |
Grigoriopol, a small city on the Dniester's west bank, saw some of the heaviest fighting during the 1992 Transnistrian War — a brief but brutal conflict that left several hundred dead and effectively cemented the breakaway republic's de facto independence from Moldova. The Memorials of Glory series, issued by the Transnistrian Republican Bank across multiple years, commemorates specific sites of Soviet and local military remembrance throughout the territory. Transnistria's unrecognized status means these coins circulate within a state that no UN member officially acknowledges.
