| Reverse description | A bold, high-relief portrait bust of the Russian writer Alexei Maximovich Gorky (1868–1936) is depicted facing slightly to the right, rendered with considerable artistic detail including his distinctive drooping moustache and deeply set features. Behind the figure, symbolic background elements are visible: swirling waves to the left, evoking themes from his literary work, and a landscape with trees to the right. To the upper left of the portrait, a stylised laurel branch appears alongside the curved Cyrillic legend А.М.ГОРЬКИЙ 1868·1936, identifying the subject and his birth and death years. The composition fills the field with dramatic sculptural depth characteristic of Soviet commemorative coin engraving. |
