Part of Belarus's long-running folklore series, this rouble was issued under the National Bank's commemorative program that leaned heavily on Belarusian oral tradition throughout the 2000s. The skylark occupies a specific place in Eastern Slavic folk narrative — associated with spring, the agricultural calendar, and the souls of the departed in some regional variants of the tradition.
Copper-nickel commemoratives from this program circulated almost exclusively among collectors; none entered everyday use.
