Obverse description The State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus is depicted in relief at the upper portion of the obverse field. The central design features stylized silhouettes of a bear alongside human figures drawn from Belarusian folk legend tradition, set against a spinning wheel motif whose spokes transition organically into the concentric ring pattern of a tree cross-section, symbolizing perpetual motion and the passage of time. Traditional Belarusian plaited decorative patterns frame the composition. The circumferential legend at the top reads РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ, and at the bottom the denomination 1 РУБЕЛЬ appears, with the year of issue 2012 positioned in the lower field.

Additional information

Belarus issued a long-running series of fauna-themed copper-nickel roubles in the 2000s and early 2010s, largely aimed at the collector market rather than circulation. By 2012, the Belarusian rouble had suffered such severe inflation — losing roughly 60% of its value against the dollar in 2011 alone following the National Bank's currency crisis — that a 1-rouble face value was essentially meaningless as money. These pieces were collectibles from the moment of issue.
