Additional information

Kliment Timiryazev was a plant physiologist whose work on photosynthesis earned him genuine international standing — he was elected a corresponding member of the Royal Society of London in 1911, a remarkable distinction for a Russian scientist of that period. The 1993 rouble series commemorating figures of Russian science was among the first issues produced after the Soviet collapse, minted while the ruble itself was in freefall against hard currencies and hyperinflation was gutting household savings. Collector demand rather than circulation absorbed most of these pieces almost immediately upon release.
