Reverse description The numeral '1' appears prominently in the central field, accompanied to its right by a traditional Belarusian folk ornament motif symbolising the pursuit of happiness and freedom, rendered in low relief. The denomination in Cyrillic script, рубель, is inscribed below the numeral, completing the value legend. The overall design is restrained and geometric, consistent with the circulation coinage series issued from 2016.

Additional information

Belarus redenominated its currency in 2000, replacing the first ruble at a rate of 1,000 to 1 after years of post-Soviet inflation had rendered small-denomination coinage functionally obsolete. This 2009 issue belongs to the second ruble series, which itself would eventually suffer the same fate — a further redenomination in 2016 wiped another 10,000 zeros, making this coin worth one ten-millionth of the current ruble in nominal terms.
