Belarus redenominated in 2000, lopping five zeroes off the Soviet-era ruble to replace the 1992 transitional series. This 1 Ruble was the lowest denomination in the new set, though inflation quickly rendered it effectively worthless in everyday transactions — by the mid-2000s it was rarely seen in circulation and largely skipped by cashiers rounding to the nearest 10 or 50.

The National Bank would eventually repeat the exercise in 2016, cutting another four zeroes in a second redenomination, making the 2000 series short-lived by any measure.
