The 1958 rouble is one of the more historically loaded non-circulating Soviet issues. An entire coinage series dated 1958 was prepared for a planned currency reform, struck in quantity, and then suppressed when authorities decided to postpone the reform — ultimately executed in 1961 instead. Most of the 1958 pieces were melted, but examples escaped, and the Soviet government never fully accounted for how many survived outside state hands.
KM# Pn7 classification as a pattern reflects its official non-release status, though the distinction between "pattern" and "suppressed circulation strike" is blurry here.
