Issued to commemorate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosted in Qatar — the first time the tournament was held in the Middle East and the first played in November and December rather than the traditional June-July window, a scheduling concession to Qatar's summer heat. Lusail City, named on this coin, was a purpose-built development that hosted the tournament's final.
