Obverse description Right-facing bust of Yang di-Pertuan Agong IV, Tuanku Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, wearing traditional Malay royal headgear and decorated ceremonial attire, depicted with spectacles in a refined medallic portrait style. The effigy occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail on the regalia and costume. The peripheral legend reads 'DYMM SPB TUANKU ISMAIL NASIRUDDIN SHAH' in raised Latin lettering, interrupted by a raised dot at the lower centre.

Reverse description Central denomination '$1' in large raised numerals occupies the middle of the field, surmounted by the Malaysian crescent and fourteen-pointed star emblem. A wreath of hibiscus flowers and foliage frames the central device on both sides, meeting at the base. The peripheral legend 'BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA' arcs around the upper portion of the coin, while the commemorative date range '1959-1969' appears in the lower exergual area, marking the tenth anniversary of Bank Negara Malaysia.
