| Reverse description | Crowned oval shield bearing the arms of the City of Reval (Tallinn), displaying two lions passant guardant in the upper half and a single lion passant guardant in the lower half, all within an ornate cartouche surmounted by a royal crown. The date 16-52 is divided on either side of the shield, with the engraver's initials G-P likewise flanking the escutcheon. The circumferential Latin legend NVMMVS · ARGENT : CIVITATIS · REVALIENSIS identifies this as a silver coin of the City of Reval. The overall composition is characteristic of the elaborate heraldic style of mid-seventeenth century Baltic municipal coinage. |
