Issued to mark Oman's National Youth Year, this gold piece was produced in limited quantities by the Central Bank of Oman as part of a broader commemorative program that expanded significantly under Sultan Qaboos following the country's oil-funded modernization drive of the 1970s and 1980s. Qaboos used coinage of this type deliberately — as instruments of policy messaging directed at a young population he was investing heavily in through new universities, technical colleges, and sports infrastructure.
The .9166 fineness is standard 22-karat gold, the same alloy used across the Omani commemorative series of this period.
