| Additional information |
North Yemen issued this essai — a trial piece submitted for official approval — in the same commemorative wave that followed Churchill's death in January 1965. Yemen was hardly alone; dozens of nations, many with no meaningful connection to Britain, rushed Churchill memorial coins to market that year, largely targeting the collector trade rather than circulation. The essai designation here indicates it never progressed beyond the approval stage for regular issue.
KM#E1 confirms this as the first essai catalogued for the Yemen Arab Republic series.
