Obverse description The field bears the Ottoman imperial titulature of Sultan Selim III inscribed in bold, large-format Arabic calligraphy arranged in four horizontal lines within a plain inner circle. The legend reads: 'Sultan of the two lands and Khagan of the two seas, Sultan Selim Khan, may his victory be glorified.' The script is rendered in a robust Thuluth style typical of Ottoman Tunisian coinage of the late 18th century. The coin is struck on an irregular flan with a milled or grained border visible along the periphery.
