The Sultan's Armed Forces Museum in Muscat occupies the old Bait Al Falaj Fort, a structure dating to 1845 that served as the Sultanate's main military headquarters well into the twentieth century. Oman's commemorative silver program has grown steadily since the 1990s, with the Central Bank issuing coins tied closely to institutions the ruling family considers culturally foundational — the military museum sits squarely in that category.
KM#183 is a relatively recent addition to the series, struck to .999 fineness rather than the .925 standard more common in earlier Omani commemoratives.
