Bait Al Falaj Fort served as the military headquarters of the Sultanate's armed forces well into the twentieth century — British-officered troops of the Muscat and Oman Field Force operated from the site as late as the 1950s and 60s. The 1970 coup that brought Qaboos to power effectively ended that chapter, and the fort has since been converted into the Armed Forces Museum.
This piece is part of the Central Bank of Oman's ongoing commemorative silver program that accelerated through the 1990s. Strikes were produced at the Royal Mint, UK.
