Obverse description The national emblem of Oman occupies the central field, depicting a khanjar (curved dagger) within its sheath superimposed upon two crossed scimitars, the traditional symbol of Omani sovereignty. The emblem is rendered in fine relief against a polished gold field. The date ٢٠٠١ (2001) appears in Arabic-Eastern numerals, likely in the lower field or exergue. The overall design is austere and heraldic in character, consistent with the official Omani state emblem as used on coinage of the reign of Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
