Oman's first oil export occurred in 1967, and the fortieth anniversary of that shipment — aboard the tanker Reward from Mina al-Fahal — prompted this commemorative issue. The timing of the 2007 release coincided with a period of aggressive Omani investment in downstream refining capacity, as the country worked to extend the life of revenues from reserves then projected to last only a few more decades.
