| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by the Shi'a Islamic profession of faith rendered in bold nasta'liq calligraphy, arranged in three horizontal registers separated by raised linear dividers. The upper register bears the shahada opening 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God), the central register continues with 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the Messenger of God), and the lower register carries the Shi'a addition 'Ali wali Allah' (Ali is the friend of God). The legends fill the flan to its margins, with a finely dotted inner border encircling the entire design, characteristic of Qajar hammered coinage of this period. |
