Additional information

Montfort-Peggau was one of the smallest and most obscure lordships in the Habsburg orbit, and by 1739 the county's independent coinage was already an anachronism — most such minor Swabian entities had effectively ceded monetary authority to larger neighbors generations earlier. Maximilian Joseph Ernest ruled a territory barely capable of sustaining its own mint, and billon issues of this denomination were struck in very limited quantities simply to assert the legal fiction of sovereign coinage rights.

Ebner's documentation of this type remains the authoritative reference precisely because the county left almost no mint records of its own.
