Obverse description Central device of an oval twelve-fold coat of arms, displaying the quartered arms of Brandenburg-Franconia, set within an elaborate baroque cartouche frame. The date appears within the surrounding circular legend, which records the titles of Georg Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The heraldic composition is rendered in high relief typical of late sixteenth-century German hammered coinage.
