Additional information

Nuremberg's Reichsguldiner issues of this period were struck against a backdrop of the Thirty Years' War entering its most destructive phase. The city, nominally imperial but fiercely protective of its commercial independence, maintained its mint operation even as the conflict disrupted silver supplies across the Holy Roman Empire. The dating span of 1638–1646 places this coin squarely within the years bracketed by the Battle of Breitenfeld and the negotiations that would become the Peace of Westphalia.

Dav SG#97 distinguishes the Nuremberg Reichsguldiner from the broader guldiner tradition — a denomination whose weight standard had been in contested alignment with the Reichstaler since the late sixteenth century.
