| Obverse description | Type I Costa Rican countermark consisting of a radiant six-pointed star punched within a small circle of approximately 7 mm diameter, applied to the obverse of a Spanish colonial host coin. The host coin displays the laureate and draped bust of King Carlos IV facing right, surrounded by the royal titular legend in the field. A circular punch hole is present near the lower portion of the coin, characteristic of this emergency issue series. |
