| Obverse description | Unadorned bare bust of Rafael Carrera facing left, rendered in high relief in a neoclassical style by engraver Johann-Baptist Frener. The effigy is of fine workmanship, with naturalistic hair detail and a plain truncation at the neck. A circular legend surrounds the portrait, separated from the rim by a continuous beaded border. The engraver's signature FRENER F. appears incuse in small capitals below the neck truncation. |
