Reverse description A bold cross divides the field into four quadrants, each containing alternating castles and lions in the traditional Castilian-Leonese heraldic arrangement, reflecting the arms of the Spanish Crown as used on colonial coinage. Assayer or mint initials appear at the lateral sides of the cross. The design is characteristic of the cob (macuquina) coinage tradition, with irregular flan shape and somewhat crude, off-center striking typical of hand-hammered emergency issues. A partial dotted border is visible around the periphery of the coin.
