| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a large crowned escutcheon bearing the quartered arms of Navarre, featuring the characteristic chain device (the chains of Navarre) arranged in an ornate Gothic shield. The crown surmounting the shield is rendered in high relief with fleur-de-lis finials. The shield is set within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a circular Latin legend in Gothic lettering. The flan is irregular and slightly wavy, consistent with hand-hammered production of the early sixteenth century. |
