Additional information

This issue belongs to the monetary reform enacted by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1497 via the Ordinance of Medina del Campo, which standardized Castilian coinage after decades of debasement under Henry IV — whose mints had produced silver so debased it was essentially worthless. Toledo was one of the crown's most trusted mints and among the first brought to compliance.

The dating range opens in 1474, the year Isabella claimed the Castilian throne amid a disputed succession that triggered a five-year war with Portugal. Coins struck in the early part of this window predate the union of crowns and were issued under her authority alone.
