Obverse description Central cross pattée divides the field into four quarters, each containing heraldic devices characteristic of the Spanish colonial macuquina coinage: castles (for Castile) and lions (for León) alternating in the quadrants. The periphery is bordered by a partial circular legend, largely off-flan as is typical of cob coinage, with tressure ornaments visible at the coin's irregular edge. The overall strike reflects the hand-hammered cob technique, resulting in an uneven, roughly circular planchet. A post-mint hole is noted at the lower left quadrant.
