Obverse description Crowned royal cypher of Philip IV (Felipe IV) centered in the field, formed by an interlaced 'P' and 'IIII' beneath a royal crown. The monogram is rendered in relief within a plain field, with the partially visible circular Latin legend around the periphery. The flan is characteristically irregular in shape, typical of early milled coinage produced at the Madrid mint during the mid-seventeenth century.
