| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King Carlos IV facing right, rendered in the neoclassical portrait style established for the Spanish colonial coinage. The king's hair is tied with a ribbon at the nape. The circular legend CAROLUS·IIII·DEI·GRATIA reads clockwise around the effigy, interrupted at the base by the date, here shown as 1803. The portrait occupies the majority of the coin's field, with the reeded border visible at the periphery. |
