Obverse description Draped and armored bust of King Carlos IV facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved curled and ribboned hair tied at the nape. The effigy, designed by Pedro González de Sepúlveda, displays a truncated shoulder with decorative drapery and armor detailing. The Latin legend CAROLUS IIII·DEI·G· encircles the bust, reading from the lower left upward and continuing across the top and right field. The mint date, here 1796, appears in the lower exergue flanked by dots. A fine toothed border frames the entire obverse design.
