Additional information

Carlos III's monetary reforms of the 1770s standardized the milled coinage produced across Spanish American mints, but Lima's output in this period carries a particular distinction: the assayer initial pairings on pieces from this window change more frequently than at most other colonial mints, making die attribution a meaningful exercise rather than a formality. The 1 Real denomination circulated aggressively across the viceroyalty's internal trade networks, and surviving examples in better condition are typically from hoards rather than individual preservation.
