| Reverse description | The reverse of this contemporary counterfeit depicts a radiant Phrygian cap, symbol of liberty, set upon a pole at center, with rays emanating outward filling the field — imitating the standard design of the Mexican republic's 1 Real coinage. Partial legends and mint/assayer marks are present around the periphery, though poorly struck and largely illegible due to the crude execution typical of contemporary forgeries. The overall flat, uneven relief and discoloration of the brass planchet further betray its counterfeit nature. |
