Obverse description The cantonal arms of Schwyz displayed on an ornate oval baroque shield, party per pale, the dexter half bearing vertical lines (representing gules) and the sinister half charged with a small Greek cross; the shield is surmounted by a decorative crown-like finial. The escutcheon is flanked on either side by a leafy olive or laurel branch forming a wreath, all set within a raised beaded border.

Reverse description The numeral '1' above the inscription 'RAPPEN' and the date '1815' arranged in three lines at the centre of the field, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at the base, set within a raised beaded border. The overall design is simple and typographically bold, in keeping with the utilitarian character of early nineteenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage.
