| Obverse description | A large, finely detailed King Protea (Protea cynaroides) in full bloom occupies the central field, rendered with naturalistic precision to highlight the characteristic dome-shaped floret head and radiating bracts. The legend SOUTH AFRICA arcs along the upper periphery in bold raised letters, while the date 2005 appears in the lower field beneath the bloom.
