Obverse description The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence legend LIBERTAD / 15 DE SETIEMBRE / DE 1821, flanked by two crossed rifles and two crossed swords, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA arcs along the upper periphery. The denomination 1 QUETZAL appears in the lower exergual area. The design is rendered in high relief with a mirror-polished proof-like finish characteristic of a presentation pattern strike.
