Obverse description Papal coat of arms of Sixtus IV displayed on an ovoid shield, charged with a tree and other heraldic devices, surmounted by the papal tiara (triregnum) and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with the papal legend distributed around the periphery of the coin in Gothic lettering. The overall design is characteristic of late 15th-century Italian hammered coinage.
