Obverse description Large papal arms of Pope Pius VI displayed on a rectangular shield, surmounted by the papal tiara with crossed keys below, all set within a smooth field. The shield bears the Braschi family coat of arms, featuring six fleurs-de-lis in the upper portion and a flowering lily branch in the lower portion. Flanking the shield are elaborate Baroque scrollwork cartouches. The circular legend reads ·PIVS·VI· PONT·M, separated by pellets, within a beaded inner border.

Reverse description Central field bears a four-line Latin inscription BONONIA DOCET (Bologna teaches) with the mint date 1784 below, the text arranged across the field in three lines. The inscription is surrounded by a wreath composed of stylised floral and foliate ornaments, interspersed with small five-pointed stars. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border with a plain outer rim.
