Obverse description Central shield displaying the Borghese family arms — a dragon and an eagle in the two lower quarters — surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the traditional symbols of papal authority. The heraldic composition occupies the majority of the coin's field, rendered in a bold if somewhat crude hammered style typical of provincial Papal State issues. A circular legend surrounds the shield along the coin's periphery, partially legible on this irregular flan.
