| Obverse description | Papal symbols in the central field, featuring the crossed keys of Saint Peter surmounted by the papal tiara (triregnum), the emblems of the Apostolic See during the Sede Vacante period. The composition is rendered in a crude hammered style typical of minor copper coinage of the sixteenth century. The legend S. VACANTE appears in the field, referencing the vacancy of the papal throne. The overall strike is irregular, consistent with the limited die workmanship applied to low-denomination quattrino coinage. |
