Additional information

Ludovico I d'Angiò never ruled Naples in any settled sense. He was the French claimant, installed after the murder of Queen Giovanna I in 1382, and spent his entire tenure fighting Charles III of Durazzo for control of the kingdom. He died of fever in Bisceglie in September 1384 without ever consolidating power. Coinage from this window is administratively thin and militarily chaotic — small billon pieces like this quattrino circulated in a kingdom that had two men simultaneously claiming its throne.
