Obverse description Central field displays the papal coat of arms of Innocent XII (Antonio Pignatelli), consisting of a heraldic shield bearing three cooking pots (pignatelle), surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is flanked by decorative foliate branches on either side. The circular Latin legend reads INNO·XII·PO·M·A·VIII around the periphery, denoting Innocent XII as Supreme Pontiff in his eighth regnal year. The coin is struck with a rope or milled border encircling the entire design.
