Additional information

Innocent XI — Benedetto Odescalchi — is better remembered for financing the Holy League against the Ottomans at Vienna in 1683 than for his copper coinage, but the Gubbio mint's output during his pontificate tells its own story. Gubbio was among the smaller papal mints, retained largely for regional convenience rather than output volume, and its copper quattrini circulated in the tight local economy of Umbria rather than moving far beyond the duchy's old borders.

Berman 2155 is not a rare attribution, but Gubbio-struck examples are meaningfully scarcer than their Fano or Bologna counterparts from the same reign.
