Reverse description Standing figure of Saint Paul the Apostle, depicted full-length in the field, holding a sword and book as his traditional attributes. The saint is rendered in a simple, somewhat archaic style consistent with hammered provincial coinage of the mid-seventeenth century Papal States. A beaded border surrounds the design, and the Latin legend SANCTVS PAVLVS AP· arcs around the figure, identifying the apostle. The overall strike is typical of the crude workmanship associated with the Gubbio mint during the reign of Innocent X.
