| Obverse description | A lion rampant to the left, holding a quince branch, rendered in the crude hammered style typical of late 15th- to early 16th-century Italian minor coinage. The central device is enclosed within a circular inner border, with the surrounding legend reading IOHANNES SFORTIA P, identifying the issuing lord Giovanni Sforza. The entire design is contained within a beaded outer border. The flan is irregular in shape and the relief is uneven, consistent with hand-struck billon production of the period. |
